The Brandon Nimmo Game

Mets 8 (4-6) Braves 7 (6-3)

Is anyone else’s hearts still racing or is it just me? The New York Mets have taken down the Atlanta Braves in a game that Brandon Nimmo broke out in a huge way.

Yesterday Francisco Lindor broke out with a home run to help the Mets get a big win, but today was the Brandon Nimmo game. Nimmo went 4 for 4 with 2 home runs and 5 RBIs.

It was no secret Nimmo was off to a rough start and today may have been the game he is finally able to break through and get in a groove the rest of this series.

Another key contributor came from designated hitter DJ Stewart. DJ, like Nimmo, was struggling big time at the plate and with JD Martinez set to join this roster soon Stewart needed to start hitting the baseball. He not only did that today but in a big way with a home run in the 8th inning to put the Mets ahead.

Carlos Mendoza stuck to his word tonight and decided to go with Jorge Lopez to get the save instead of Edwin Diaz while he was set to have the day off prior to the start of today’s game. Lopez was able to get the job done thanks to Tyrone Taylor’s great defensive play, robbing a home run from Marcell Ozuna.

After today’s game the Mets sit only 2.5 games back behind the Braves for first place in the NL East and 2 games behind the final wild card spot. Great start to the series for the Mets as they look to continue winning ways tomorrow night.

Next game up NYM (Houser) vs ATL (Lopez)
