A 13 hit performance lifts the Mets past the Washington Nationals for the first series win since May 7th. David Peterson recorded his first win of the 2024 season pitching over six and two thirds innings to help the Mets win 6-3.
For the Mets the scoring started in the top of the 4th inning thanks to a two run home run from Harrison Bader, his third of the season. In the top of the 5th inning the Mets poured it on from a Starling Marte two run triple and a Mark Vientos sacrifice fly to give the Mets a 5-0 lead.
David Peterson’s only hiccup came in the bottom of the 7th inning giving up a lead off walk to Jesse Winker, and Joey Gallo would single to right field to make it a 5-2 ballgame. Peterson would be pulled two batters later, but nonetheless a very strong performance in just his second start of the season.
When asked what it meant to be a key contributor in a series win Peterson said; “For me that’s the job. It’s to come and give our team a chance to win. I feel like I was able to do that tonight”.
David Peterson Final Line:
6.2 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 2 K, 2 BB
In the top of the 9th inning the Mets would get some insurance from a 446 foot home run from Pete Alonso. His 14th home run of the season puts Pete 4th in the National League in home runs behind Shohei Ohtani, Bryce Harper, and Marcell Ozuna.
The Mets now look to complete the series sweep tomorrow with Luis Severino on the bump starting at 4:05 PM on SNY.
