The New York Mets are ready to begin a 10 game stretch against National League East opponents starting with the Braves in Flushing.

The Mets are currently 18-18 and are 5-5 in the last 10 they have played. As of this morning they are 7 games back from the Phillies (8-2 in last 10) in the National League East and currently tied for the third wild card spot. To say that this 10 game stretch is important is an understatement. The Mets have scratched and clawed their way to a .500 record, but have a great opportunity ahead to really set up the rest of May.

It starts with the Braves, who the Mets won two out of three back in April due to an offensive outburst. In those three games the Mets scored a combined 29 runs over 39 hits. An overall impressive series for the Mets who will look to continue the early success against the Braves.

The match-up every one will be waiting for will be on Saturday where Christian Scott makes his Citi Field debut against Max Fried.

Scott was as advertised in his first major league start against the Tampa Bay Rays. He nearly pitched seven innings giving up only one earned run and striking out six. Surely the nerves will be there in his Citi Field debut, but it will be exciting to see how Scott performs against a potent Braves lineup.

While Spencer Strider is shut down the Mets will have to face two tough pitchers to start the weekend series. Charlie Morton and Max Fried are expected to start for the Braves, who both have had success against the Mets. Fried has a record of 8-5 with an ERA of 2.65 and 108 strikeouts in 22 appearances against the Mets in his career. Charlie Morton has a record of 6-6 with an ERA of 3.71 and 124 strikeouts in 23 appearances versus the Mets in his career.

It is interesting to note that Charlie Morton in his last 11 starts against the Mets has only went past the 5th inning twice. The Mets have always been patient at the plate when Morton is pitching, and tonight should be no different.
