Mets (17-18) Cardinals (15-20) 7:45 PM SNY
José Buttó (0-2, 2.57, 31) Miles Mikolas (2-4, 5.68, 29)
The New York Mets are ready for revenge against Cardinals pitcher Miles Mikolas in Saint Louis.
Last night Brandon Nimmo hit a massive home run in the 7th inning to give the Mets the lead. Nimmo is currently on a raging hot streak at the plate, reaching base nine out of the last eleven games according to Anthony DiComo. Over those eleven games Nimmo is slashing .317/.417/.561 with two home runs.
The Cardinals will trot out Miles Mikolas who earned the win in his last start against the Mets. He pitched five and two thirds giving up 2 earned runs over 7 hits with 5 strikeouts back in April against a struggling Mets lineup at the time. Since then he has had one start against the Tigers where he gave up three earned runs over 6 hits.
Mikolas has not looked like himself this year, as he is ranked below average in every category that is important to a starting pitcher. He has been playing with fire all year giving up 46 hits in his first seven starts of the year. Can this be a night where the Mets can really pour on some runs as a collective unit?
For the Mets José Buttó will get his 6th start of the year as he looks to continue his impressive year.
Buttó responded after a shaky outing against the Cardinals with a six inning effort against the Cubs where he allowed only one run to come across four hits and struck out six. He was able to lower his ERA to a 2.57 with a WHIP of 1.07 striking out 31 over his first five starts.
Buttó has been great this season at getting hitters to swing and miss at his fastball. He has not given up hard contact, but with a young pitcher comes mistakes. In the last start against the Cardinals two home runs were the key to the four runs given up, as he was unable to locate two pitches. Buttó will look to minimize those mistakes tonight and continue what he has been doing all year.
