Mets (18-18) Cardinals (15-21) 5/8 1:15 PM SNY
Jose Quintana (1-3, 5.20, 25) Sonny Gray (4-1, 0.89, 38)
The New York Mets cap off the Saint Louis series this afternoon against Cardinals superstar pitcher Sonny Gray.
Sonny Gray has been nothing short of amazing for the Cardinals in the early part of the season. He currently has a 4-1 record with an ERA of 0.89 and 38 strikeouts. Yes, you read that correctly a 0.89 ERA. He has been one of the top pitchers in the national league thus far, and has already faced the Mets once this year back in the previous series in New York. In that start Gray only gave up one earned run on four hits while striking out nine.
For the Mets Jose Quintana looks to get back on the high horse after a frustrating outing in Tampa Bay. In by far his worst start of the year Quintana was unable to get out of the third inning giving up eight earned runs on ten hits. With that being said Quintana had a stellar outing against the Cardinals back in New York. He managed to pitch eight innings only giving up one earned run on three hits and most importantly one walk. Will we see the same success this time around?
The Mets “core” players are starting to turn it around. Brandon Nimmo has hit the baseball extremely well over the last week, and Alonso having a huge break out game last night to help get the win for the Mets. Jeff McNeil is starting to find ways to get on base and Francisco Lindor is back to where he belongs. Are the Mets starting to get hot as a collective unit?
