Arlington, TX– The winning streak continues after a monstrous offensive performance from the Mets. A six run second inning blew the doors open thanks to RBI hits from Lindor, Nimmo, Alonso, and a three run home run by DJ Stewart to cap it off. After a handful of games where J.D. Martinez carried the run support five Mets had three or more hits in today’s ballgame and totaled 22 hits across the board.
“It was a good night overall, 1-9 pretty impressive. I’ve been saying it, J.D. the past few days and I like what I am seeing out of the other guys. Lindor, Pete continue to swing a really good bat, Nimmo getting there. So like I said we knew with this offense we are capable of putting games together, obviously today was special but 1-9 some really good hitters and now that they are clicking we will see it,” Mendoza said.
The Mets trio Lindor, Nimmo, and Alonso accounted for 10 of the hits and 8 runs. Lindor had a perfect day at the plate going 4 for 4 with 2 RBIs and 3 runs, while Nimmo went 3 for 4 with 4 RBIs and 2 runs. Since Francisco Lindor took over the lead off spot Nimmo has struggled, but since moving away from batting third he has found his groove. With massive days at the plate for the trio in a wide open National League anything is truly possible if these three can stay consistent.
“They say hitting is contagious and you can see that right now. I think we are trying to take it one at bat at time right now and keep things simple, don’t try and do to much. The guys are swinging the bat well and having a really good time up there. It’s fun when you see the guy right in front of you come through and I wanna come through too,” Nimmo said.
An offensive masterpiece will definitely overlook David Peterson’s performance, but the left-handed pitcher out of Oregon has been very solid since back in the rotation. In the 6 innings pitched tonight Peterson only managed to give up two earned runs over four hits, while striking out six. Peterson now lowers his ERA to 3.97 and picks up his third win of the season.
The Mets will look to make it seven in a row tomorrow night with Luis Severino on the mound facing Michael Lorenzen in game two of the three game series.
