Mets Avoid Sweep in Miami; Garrett Records Save

After a catastrophic loss in yesterday’s game, the Mets have responded with a 7-3 win.

The Mets offense was able to get off to a quick start loading the bases in the first inning. Tyrone Taylor would step up to the plate and hit a double to center field which scored Francisco Lindor and Brandon Nimmo. Two batters later Harrison Bader would add on with a two run RBI single to extend the Mets lead to 4-0.

Harrison Bader has been great at the plate as of late. Over the last seven days Bader is slashing .348/.375/.766 with 5 RBIs and 8 hits. Bader has been asking for more at bats and shows this past week why Mets manager Carlos Mendoza has a reason to pencil him into the lineup.

The Mets starting pitcher Sean Manaea, who has quietly had a great start to the season, had his one and only hiccup of the game in the second inning. Emmanuel Rivera would lead off the 2nd inning with a seven pitch walk, and Dane Myers stepped up with a two run home run to left field to cut the lead in half.

The game would stay 4-2 until the bottom of the 7th when Jake Diekman would come in to pitch. Christian Bethancourt would send a fly ball to right field for a lead off home run to cut the Mets lead down to one run. Diekman would hit the next batter Chisholm Jr., but would be caught leaving first base early from a pick off move and would retire the next two batters.

With the news of the Mets having Edwin Diaz take a step back from his usual closer role, Reed Garrett would come in the 8th to record a 6 out save. He would retire the side to keep it a one run ballgame, as the Mets look for insurance.

Brandon Nimmo would be the provider with a 395 foot home run to right center field to make it a three run ball game. That would be Nimmo’s 7th homer of the season knocking in two runs to bring his total RBI count at 29, which leads the Mets this season.

Brett Baty would follow up with a single to right field scoring Starling Marte to extend the lead to 7-3. Reed Garrett would then trot back to the mound to record his second career save to help the Mets avoid a sweep.

The New York Mets now travel to Cleveland to take on the Guardians in a three game series starting tomorrow night before heading back home to take on the injured San Francisco Giants.
