In a game that the Mets competed in defensively the whole afternoon Mark Vientos comes up in a massive way to help the Mets win 4-2.
The Mets were kept in check up until the 6th inning when Francisco Lindor hit his 5th home run of the season to tie the game at 1-1. The game would be tied heading into the 11th inning when Cardinals outfielder Brendan Donovan would single to right scoring Siani, but bad base running led Donovan to being thrown out at second to keep it a one run game. Harrison Bader singled up the middle with two outs in the next half inning to tie the game back up at 2-2 and then Mark Vientos capped it off with a two run home run to center field to win the game. An emotional home run for Vientos after not making the original 25 man roster, will be one to help this Mets team for the foreseeable future.
Jose Quintana pitched a gem today for the Mets, pitching 8 innings (first starting pitcher to go past 7 innings this season) giving up only three hits and one earned run. Edwin Diaz then came in the 9th to keep the game tied, and nearly struck out the side to keep the score at 1-1. Reed Garrett finished off the 10th and 11th inning only giving up one hit and one unearned run with two strikeouts. Reed is now tied yet again with the most wins in Major League Baseball with five. He has lowered his ERA to 0.61 with 27 strikeouts on the season.
