Mets 2 (7-8) Royals 1 (10-6)
The Mets get past the Royals to win their third straight series in a row.
With one of the better pitching performances of the year thanks to Jose Butto, the Mets take down the Royals. Mets pitchers struck out 14 batters today 9 of them coming from Butto. His outing today brings his ERA to a 0.75 with 15 total strikeouts on the season. On Dwight Goodens number retirement day Butto sure showed a great show for Doc.
The Mets offense was held in check throughout the whole entire game until they finally broke through in the 8th inning. Harrison Badder hit a weak ground ball up the third base line to help bring home Pete Alonso and Brandon Nimmo walked with the bases loaded to give a little wiggle room for Edwin Diaz to close it out.
The Mets are now 7-3 in their last 10 games and have quickly climbed up in the standings in the early part of the season. As of today the Mets are 2.5 games back from the first place Atlanta Braves and 1.5 games back from the final wild card spot. They are set to play the Pirates tomorrow night for a three game series who sit 4 games above them in the national league standings. Another series win this week will surely put the Mets in a good spot and will knock off another red hot ball club.
