Diaz Disaster Costs Mets

The New York Mets lose a heart breaking game in extra innings to the Philadelphia Phillies 5-4.

Edwin Diaz has blown his second save in the last three opportunities, which has not happened since the 2021 season. Over his last 7 innings pitched (6 appearances) his ERA is a 6.43.

“Pitch location… I have been missing my locations a little bit this year”, said Diaz when asked why he has given up more home runs this year. “I gotta do my job better”.

The Mets had a chance to really break open this game in the bottom of the 3rd inning. They had the bases loaded and only managed to get one run in before striking out swinging three times in a row. The Mets had 16 runners in scoring position tonight and were only to convert three runs from it.

Offensively, J.D. Martinez had a big night with three hits and two RBIs. The lone bright spot for the Mets offense as J.D. Martinez now has five RBIs on the season.

Sean Manaea pitched a great game despite the loss, going six innings striking out six and only giving up one run. He now lowers his ERA to a 3.05 with a WHIP of 1.31.
