The New York Mets with a magical walk off win avoid the sweep from the Atlanta Braves.
Brandon Nimmo, who was originally not in the starting line up due to a right intercostal irritation, hits a 396 foot home run to center field to win it for the Mets 4-3.
Pete Alonso had an excellent day at the plate that kept the Mets in the game. Over his two hits he was able to drive in two base runners to tie the ballgame twice (3rd and 6th inning).
This is now the Mets fourth walk off in the early season. That leads the national league and only behind the Yankees for the most walk offs in major league baseball.
Luis Severino battled his way through his outing. In five innings pitched Sevy gave up two earned runs and struck out four. In the 94 pitches thrown 55 of them were strikes and walked three Braves.
The bullpen continues to be successful as a collective group. The Mets brought out four different pitchers in the last four innings. Combined, the bullpen only gave up one hit and one earned run while striking out four. Edwin Diaz picks up his first win of the season and brings his ERA down to 2.30. In the 14 pitches Diaz threw 11 of them were strikes.
Carlos Mendoza remains optimistic with his group noting that Nimmo, Lindor, and J.D. are starting to get it going offensively. “Once we get going, it could be really fun here”, says the Mets skipper.
The Mets now face the Phillies in a two and two home/road four game series starting tomorrow night at Citi Field.
