The San Francisco Giants beat the Mets to take game one of the series by a final score of 5-2.
Jose Quintana with a brutal start tonight, giving up 7 hits, 3 walks, and 5 earned runs over 5 innings pitched. His ERA now stands at a 4.21 on the season with a 1-2 record. Walks has been a growing theme for Quintana and this will be something that needs to be fixed quickly or it will be a long season.
Keaton Winn kept the Mets quiet offensively only giving up 1 earned run and striking out 6 over 6 innings. On the bright side the rest of this series has changed regarding the Giants bullpen. Despite the tough loss the Mets managed to get Giants closer Camilo Doval to throw 27 pitches. With the Mets facing the Giants ace tomorrow night it will be interesting to see how the Giants go about the bullpen the rest of the series.
In the lone bright spot Pete Alonso is now only one home run away from 200 career home runs thanks to his homer in the 5th inning. The Mets have a very difficult task tomorrow facing the 2023 NL Cy Young runner-up with Luis Severino looking to help the Mets get a win.
