Back in the New York groove – Mets win game one in Saint Louis

The New York Mets are back in the win column thanks to a 4-3 win over the Saint Louis Cardinals.

Sean Manaea picked up his second win of the season thanks to a great performance on the bump. He was able to get the struggling Cardinals offense to create weak contact and stretch out his start to six innings for the second time this season. While Manaea made a mistake late in the game he was commanding the strike zone and only walked one Cardinal in his appearance.

Edwin Diaz returned to Edwin Diaz form as he recorded the save for the Mets tonight. His fastball was lively, topping out at 98 MPH and was able to get a strikeout. Diaz is now up to five saves on the season and has lowered his ERA to 2.45 and a 0.82 WHIP.

Brandon Nimmo continues to stay hot with a solo home run to take the lead in the 7th inning. Even when Nimmo was struggling he was able to work deep counts and has hit the ball hard all year, just has not been able to find the holes until recently. He currently ranks in the top 83 percentile in batting run value, xwOBA, xBA, xSLG, Avg Exit Velocity, Barrel %, and Hard-Hit%. Simpler terms, he has been extremely unlucky but has been able to hit baseballs in spots the defense is not over the last few games.
