Are the Mets ready to keep this train going? Mets take down Pirates in game 1

The New York Mets answer against the Pirates with a 6-3 win.

After the Pirates got to Adrian Houser and Drew Smith in the 6th inning the Mets responded in a big way thanks to DJ Stewart. Stewart came into the game as a pinch hitter and jumped on the first pitch he saw, which led to an RBI double to tie the game at 3-3. Harrison Bader later in the 8th inning came up in a huge way with a two run double to take the lead and Edwin Diaz closed it out for his 100th save as a New York Met.

Adrian Houser bounced back in a big way today pitching five and a third innings striking out five giving up two earned runs. Houser needed to come out and give the Mets a quality outing and he did just that. Brooks Raley and Adam Ottavino combined for four strikeouts in two innings to keep the Pirates in check.

As of right now the New York Mets are 2 games back from the Atlanta Braves in the NL East and 1.5 games back from the third wild card spot. While it is still early in the year it is important to note the wild card positioning as the Pirates are now only 2.5 games above the Mets in the national league standings, with the Phillies only a half game up against the Mets.

Another impressive win, coming from behind, spreading hits, stealing bases, and playing to win the ballgame. That’s the key. They’re not here to compete. This team is playing to win. And for the last 12 games, they have the tools, both on the hill and at the plate. Bady and Stewart delivered clutch RBI hits tonight and our bullpen is… Mean.
