Royals offense explodes against Mets – Game 2

Sean Manaea Impressive in Mets Debut - Metsmerized Online

Royals 11 (10-5) Mets 7 (6-8)

The New York Mets fall to the Kansas City Royals.

Plain and simple Manaea did not have his best stuff today. He could not get out of the 3rd inning and struggled against the Royals lineup. Over 3 and 2/3rds innings Manaea gave up 9 hits and 6 runs walking 3.

The Royals had 6 players with 2 hits but the most damaging player today was Salvador Perez. Perez had 2 hits one of which was a home run with 4 RBIs.

On the Mets side Pete Alonso erupted with 3 hits two of which were home runs and drove in 3. Pete continues to show why Steve Cohen should open the check book come this off-season. Starling Marte had 3 hits and shows fans that he is very comfortable in the 2 hole.

It is important to note the struggles pitchers have been having with Omar Narvaez behind the plate. While he has hit exceptionally well when he plays, pitchers have given up more runs. Today giving up 11 runs, 6 runs against the Braves in game 2, 9 runs against the Reds in game 2, 4 runs against the Brewers in game 3 All with Narvaez behind the plate. If the Mets want to be able to be consistent defensively they will have to address the back up catching position.
