Long Ball Lifts Mets Past Diamondbacks

The New York Mets have beaten the reigning National League Champions Arizona Diamondbacks 3-2. A day after the Jorge Lopez incident and the team meeting the Mets responded in a huge way to snap a three game losing streak.

Mets rookie Christian Scott hit a rough patch in the third inning giving up a two run double to Ketel Marte to make it a 2-0 ballgame. Scott was able to buckle down and finish with two scoreless innings to limit the damage. Not enough to earn the win given his high pitch count but a solid outing from Scott against a dangerous lineup.

Francisco Lindor had a massive night at the plate that started with a solo home run to cut the lead in the half in the third inning. That would be Francisco’s 9th home run of the season and he was not done. In the bottom of the 7th inning Pete Alonso came off the bench and ripped a double down the third base line with two outs. Lindor then came to bat and hit a single to right field to score Alonso for his 4th hit of the ballgame. He is now on a 9-game hit streak and has his second four hit game of the season.

With the game tied in the bottom of the 8th J.D. Martinez came up to bat and clobbered a home run to center field for his 4th home run with the Mets to take the lead 3-2. A signature moment for Martinez in his young Mets career help lift the Mets to a key victory to set the tone heading into the weekend.

Reed Garrett came on to close the game out as Mets fans held their breath. Garrett walked Christian Walker to start the inning, but immediately got two quick infield pop outs. Jake McCarthy came in to pinch hit for Eugenio Suarez in hopes of a long ball to take the lead, but Garrett would get McCarthy to ground out to end the game. Garrett picks up his third save of the year and the Mets are back in the win column.
