Frustrations Boil As Mets Lose Third Straight

The New York Mets (19-23) lose to the Philadelphia Phillies (31-13) 10-5. They are now losers of five out of the last six games and are currently 3-7 in the last 10 games.

The season debut of Joey Lucchesi was primed to have a solid outing until it was not. The Mets were able to get out to an early lead thanks to a Mark Vientos RBI double that scored Lindor, but Bryce Harper answered with a 386 foot home run to left field.

Lucchesi then went on to pitch the next three innings without giving up a run until the bottom of the 5th. Lucchesi was plagued with walks, walking three Phillies before JT Realmuto and Bryce Harper came to the plate with the bases loaded. Realmuto with an RBI single and Harper with a RBI double to make the Phillies lead 5-2.

The Mets were unable to do anything offensively until the top of the 8th where J.D. Martinez hit his second home run of the season. Jeff McNeil then came up to bat and roped an RBI double, and Tomas Nido followed with an RBI single to make it a 10-5 ballgame heading into the 9th.

The Mets would start the 9th with the heart of the lineup (Alonso, Lindor, and Martinez), but were unable to get a rally started as the Mets now fall to 19-23 on the season. At some point you have to think this team will get hot, but the overall team performance over the last 10 games leaves fans questioning if the team will be able to get out of this slump before it is to late.

The Mets finish there series with the Phillies tomorrow against former Met Taijuan Walker and then travel down to Miami to face the Marlins for the weekend. With a struggling Marlins team who has made it clear what there intentions are this year, a win tomorrow for the Mets can go a long way heading into the weekend.
