Following a heart breaking loss late in last nights game, today could not have gone any worse for the New York Mets (19-22) as they fall to the Phillies (30-13) 4-0.
Phillies pitcher Aaron Nola took a perfect game into the 6th inning before Tyrone Taylor spoiled his day with a first pitch swinging single. Nola finished a complete game shut out only giving up four hits and struck out 8 batters.
The only bit of offense the Mets had in this game was in the bottom of the 9th where Jeff McNeil and Starling Marte kept the game alive for Francisco Lindor to come up to make it a one run ball game. However, Lindor would fly out to center field and the ball game was over.
José Buttó was unable to throw strikes, which ultimately led to a rough 3rd inning. Buttó walked 5 batters 4 of which were in the 3rd inning. He would then load the bases hitting Alec Bohm and walking Brandon Marsh to make it a 2-0 ball game in the 3rd and the rest was history.
With Carlos Mendoza potentially having to use Adrian Houser out of the bullpen today he will no longer be the starting pitcher tomorrow. A starter is to be determined later after the coaching staff gets together.
