Struggling Mets Look To Rebound On Sunday Night Baseball

Yesterday the New York Mets were nearly no hit, today they can show America what type of team they are.

The Mets and Braves will face in the series finale on Sunday Night Baseball. This will be the Mets first appearance of the season on ESPN and it comes at no better time than with Luis Severino taking the bump.

Severino has been the best starting pitcher so far this season. In his seven appearances he carries a 2.93 ERA with 37 strikeouts and a WHIP of 1.18. In his last start he gave up six free passes to Tampa Bay batters, the most walks he has allowed in a game this season.

Prior to the Tampa Bay outing Severino has only allowed six runs to come across during his five outings in the month of April. Most notably a near no hitting performance against the Cubs.

For the Braves Bryce Elder will get the start this evening.

The 5th round pick out of Texas has had three appearances thus far. With the news of Spencer Strider having to undergo season ending surgery Elder has had to step up for the Braves.

Elder currently holds a 5.28 ERA with 10 strikeouts and a WHIP of 1.76 through his first three appearances. In his first two starts he pitched a total of 12 innings giving up two earned runs while striking out six.

His ERA has been inflated due to a poor performance against the Dodgers where he pitched three and a third innings giving up seven hits, seven runs, and three home runs.

In his three appearances against the Mets in his career he has a 2-0 record with an ERA of 5.27 and 13 strikeouts.
