Mets set a historic club record to help get past Cubs.

The New York Mets beat the Chicago Cubs 4-2 to get a game over .500.

Mets fans put on a show setting a new record with 44,269 hotdogs sold on dollar dog night. A very nice new week day promotion that fans are hopeful is here to stay.

The Mets started the scoring early tonight capitalizing on a Cubs error. Pete Alonso would hit a sacrifice fly to score Lindor to get the offense going in the first inning. The Cubs responded with a run of their own in the next half inning from another sacrifice fly from Amaya scoring Swanson to tie the game. Both teams were kept in check until the sixth inning when the Mets capitlized on another Cubs error with a big fly from DJ Stewart. DJ’s three run shot was his 4th home run of the year and pushed the Mets lead to 4-1 giving the bullpen extra cushion to close the game out.

Manaea battled on the mound despite giving up four walks, he managed to only give up three hits and one earned run striking out three Cubs. He now lowers his season ERA to a 3.07. The Mets bullpen continues to prove that they have been one of the top in the league the past month. Four relivers came on to close out the game (Foley, Garrett, Ottavino, Lopez), only giving up one hit and one run in four innings. With another two games left in the series the focus now goes to tomorrow night when the Mets face a tough lefty Shota Imanaga.
