Mets (Manaea) Cubs (Assad) 4/30 7:10 PM SNY
The New York Mets play a baseball game today.
The Mets will look to bounce back following their worst loss of the season, where Luis Severino took a no-hitter into the 8th inning only to lose the game by a final score of 3-1.
Javier Assad will take the mound for the Cubs, as he looks to continue a solid start to the 2024 season. Another common theme we have been seeing in starting pitchers is innings pitched and the same goes for Assad. He has only managed to pitch 6 innings once in his first five starts, but holds a record of 2-0 with an ERA of 2.00 with 26 strikeouts. He mixes his pitches well between sinker, cutter, four seam and throws them for strikes. He does not allow hard hit balls as he is ranked in the 91st percentile in hard-hit percentage, which can be a problem for the Mets as seen against Logan Webb in San Francisco.
For the Mets Sean Manaea will get the start as he looks to improve from his past three starts. Manaea has solid numbers with the 3.33 ERA and 27 strikeouts, but he just has not been able to put hitters away when he is ahead of the count. He has only pitched 24 and a 1/3 innings this year and has constantly been putting himself in full counts, with batters fighting off pitches. In his last start he managed to strikeout six batters but walked four, and threw a total 101 pitches but only 58 of them were strikes. Manaea has only faced the Cubs four times and in those appearances he has a 4.67 ERA with 15 strikeouts.
Keys to the Game:
The Mets offense has been freezing cold since their winning streak and facing another tough pitcher tonight, it will come down to Manaea. He is going to have to find ways to throw more strikes and put hitters away, something he has struggled with in virtually every start.
