Mets Fall Short As Cardinals Secure Victory in Game 1

The New York Mets lose game one of the series to the Cardinals 4-2.

Another day another starting pitcher that does not go past 5 innings and giving up crucial walks. Jose Butto walked three batters tonight two of which in the same inning, which lead to a three run home run for the Cardinals to take an early lead. A continuous problem for the Mets, will have to be taken into consideration with Tylor Megill, David Peterson, and Kodai Senga all expected to be ready to pitch over the next month and a half.

For the Mets offense, JD Martinez and Tomas Nido had big nights. Nido’s first home run of the year got the Mets on the board in the 5th inning and JD Martinez RBI double in the 6th gave the Mets life, but the Mets could not get runners across the plate. While the offense will have its ups and downs throughout the season starting pitching is going to have to improve if they want to be consistent.
