The New York Mets look to get back in the win column as they face last years NL Cy Young winner Blake Snell.
Snell was a late addition to the Giants as he was signed with the team in late March. Snell has had three starts so far this season and they have not been what Giants fans expected. As of today he has a 0-3 record with an ERA of 11.57 in 11 and 2/3rds innings pitched. With that being said he has had the Mets number in his career. Snell has a 2.66 ERA and 57 strikeouts in 8 appearances against the Mets. For an offense that has struggled over the last three days runs will be at a premium today.
For the Mets Sean Manaea will take the ball as he looks to beat his former team. Manaea through four games has an ERA of 4.12 with 21 strikeouts over 19 and 2/3rds innings pitched. The numbers do not jump off the page at you, but Manaea has had good starts for the Mets. His main issue (as well as other starters) is not putting away batters, accumulating a higher pitch count in the early part of the game. Manaea will have to grind out more than 5 innings for the Mets to be successful today. He is no stranger to the Giants as he has a 3-3 record with an ERA of 3.00 and 47 strikeouts in 11 appearances against San Francisco in his career.
Keys to the Game:
Offense, Offense, and more Offense! It is no secret that the Mets have been struggling on offense the last three days. The biggest reason why is the fact two out of the three starting pitchers faced will be at the top of the list for Cy Young winners come end of the season. While Blake Snell has been good against the Mets he has struggled this season. For a Mets team to come in and score runs early and often against him, will go along way as far as confident boosters heading home for a weekend series against the Cardinals.
