Is the world ending?! Are the Mets dead?

With one of the more horrible starts to the season for the New York Mets in recent years the age old questions comes to mind for us Mets fans. Are the Mets dead? To simply put the answer is No. While a record of 2-6 seems to be startling, there is no need to hit the panic button just yet.

If you were to tell Mets fans at the beginning of this season that this starting rotation would go out and compete the way they have been through the first 8 games of the year, you would call me crazy. The fact of the matter is that the starting rotation has been solid at the start of the season, but I already know what the next complaint is. “Well what is happening with Lindor, Nimmo, Marte, McNeil…”. For one I forgot that hitters come in to the season scorching hot, news flash they don’t. It also is freezing right now with minimal fans in the stadium due to bad weather at the beginning of the season. There is no juice at the moment because of this and that is not anyone’s fault. Obviously when it is cold in October that is a different feeling because that is meaningful baseball. But as someone who grew up playing baseball in New Jersey the months of March and April it is hell. One hit off the end of the bat your hands are stinging for the rest of the day, one ball caught on the palm of the glove you are done for. Everyone that has played baseball in the cold can relate to that. The season is still young and there is a lot to be optimistic about.

4/6/2024 Game Recap Reds 9 Mets 6:

Do we start with the positive or negative… Let’s get the negative out of the way. Yohan Ramirez you are now on the hot seat. It is understandable after an unexpected double header to be short in the bullpen, and early in the season teams are trying to find there go to guys in the Pen. But Ramirez was unacceptable today. Not only was he throwing meatballs to Spencer Steer the hottest hitter in the Reds lineup, he should not of even been out there in the 8th inning. Carlos Mendoza showing his inexperience today cost the Mets a much needed win to capture there first series win this season, as well as Ramirez poor performance.

Now lets end on a positive. Marte, Nimmo, and Batty all had solid days at the plate. These three guys will be the sole reason this team gets going on offense. You know Lindor, Alonso, and Alverez are going to do but the other three are going to have to be consistent at the plate for this team to be even remotely average. Severano shows as well that if he can stay healthy he can be a dominant starter for this team to be paired up with Senga upon his return. He is a bulldog when he gets going, but that is a huge if he can stay healthy.
